about ME

I was born in Portugal, in a small town south of Lisbon. At age 18, I wanted to work in film, but back then, film was a very unsafe career choice in Portugal, so I opted for the safety of a Software Engineering career.

However, during that period, I had these little voices in my head telling me stories. I tried to shut them down, but with time, they grew louder. When I moved to London, those voices were shouting, too loud to ignore, so I decided it was time to learn the craft of screenwriting.

I’ve written several shorts, features, and tv pilots, all of which you can find here, with some sample pages.

But having written unproduced pages was not good enough, so I started collaborating with other filmmakers, and finally directing my first short, For the Children. I have directed three other shorts since. Forgotten Things and Uncle Ted have both won multiple awards at film festivals around the world. Currently in post-production for Fade to Black, a psychological drama about a writer who breaks the pact with the voice in her head.

Recently, I found the joy of writing comic books. I’ve been commissioned to write two stories for TPub, and I’m working on my own anthology book, Scinematic Figures. With the pandemic, it’s a fantastic medium to produce work with no risk, and I get to tell some of those stories that I’d have a hard time telling in film.

I’m also about to do my debut directing theatre, with the play Rainbow for the Cockpit Theatre in London, written by a good friend of mine and previous collaborator, over Zoom, and scheduled for early December.
